# Importing from Excel

Use this when you have no directory to connect to, or when you are onboarding a list that does not exist in one.

## Open the upload screen

Click **Import → Import from Excel**.

**Important** — Upload the supplied template. A file with different or reordered columns will not import correctly.

## Download and fill in the template

Click **Download template**.

The file saves as `import_users_template.xlsx`.

Open it and add one row per user, keeping the supplied header row exactly as it is.

The template’s columns are the same attribute set the directory wizards map: **Username** (mandatory), First Name, Last Name, Email, Mobile Number, Country Code, Employee ID, Gender, Date of Birth, Address Line 1, Address Line 2, Country, State, City, Pin Code, Department, Sub Department and Reporting Manager.

**Username** is the only column marked mandatory, but a user with no email address cannot be sent notifications or an initial password. Populate **Email** for anyone who will sign in.

## Upload the file

Save and close the workbook, then click the upload area on the Excel import screen and choose your file.

SECUREpass reads the file and lists the users it found.

Select the users to onboard and click **Save**.
