# Manage resources overview

**Manage Resources** is where you onboard the things your people need access to. Nothing can be granted to anyone until it has been registered here first.

It covers five resource types, each with its own page on the menu.

| Menu entry | What you onboard | Covered in |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Manage Applications** | Applications that federate with SECUREpass over SAML 2.0, OpenID or OAuth 2.0, and public SaaS applications brokered through the browser extension | *Register and configure applications* |
| **Manage Systems** | Windows and Linux servers reached over SSH or RDP | *Privileged access (PAM) setup* |
| **Manage Databases** | Databases reached through the SECUREpass proxy | *Privileged access (PAM) setup* |
| **Manage Cloud Resources** | AWS, Azure and GCP accounts, and the services discovered inside them | *Privileged access (PAM) setup* |
| **Manage Network Devices** | Routers, switches, firewalls and VPN gateways authenticated through RADIUS | *Privileged access (PAM) setup* |

## Why the five are documented in two places

Applications are onboarded so that people can sign in to them — SECUREpass becomes the front door, and the user authenticates once.

The other four are onboarded so that privileged sessions can be brokered to them — SECUREpass holds the credential, proxies the connection, and records what was done. That is a different job with different prerequisites, so it is documented with the rest of privileged access rather than here.

The menu does not make that split visible, which is why it is worth knowing before you start clicking.

## Onboarding is not granting

Registering a resource here does not give anyone access to it. It makes the resource available to be granted.

Deciding who may reach it — and with which role, and under what authentication standard — is a separate step, covered under *Access policies and approvals*. Expect to come back to this menu whenever something new is added, and to go to access control whenever someone new needs to reach it.
