# Setting up Groups and managing them

## 11.1 Why use groups

A group is a named set of users you can grant access to as a unit. Grant an application or role to the group once and every member inherits it, instead of repeating the same assignment for each person.

Go to **Users & Groups → Manage Groups**.

## 11.2 Create a group

### Complete **Group Details**

The **Add Group** wizard opens with two steps: **Group Details** and **Assign Users**.

Click **Continue**.

### Select users

The **Assign Users** step lists the users available to add.

Select the users you want in the group.

### Create the group

Click **Create Group**. The group appears in the list.

## 11.4 The group list

Each group shows its status and the actions available against it.

| Icon   | Action                                               |
| ------ | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Eye    | **View** the group’s details and members             |
| Pencil | **Edit** the group — for example to correct the name |
| Bin    | **Delete** the group                                 |

### Delete a group

Deleting a group removes the container and any access granted through it. The users themselves are not deleted.
