# Applying methods to an application

Enabling a method here makes it available across the organisation. It does not yet apply to anything.

When you configure an application under **Manage Resources**, the **Authentication** step offers the methods enabled here, sorted into the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary slots you set in section 3. That is where you choose which factors a given application demands, and per role.

This is how organisation-wide authentication methods are enabled, ranked and configured, ready to be applied to individual applications.

{% hint style="info" %}
To see how these methods are applied to a specific application, and how the primary, secondary and tertiary factors are set per role, refer to the **Authentication** step in *Manage Resources*.
